Impact Story: Empowering Survivors through Education & Entrepreneurship

At Becoming Grace Foundation, we believe in the transformative power of education and community support. Recently, we had the honor of assisting a survivor who is now thriving in furthering her education and supporting her entrepreneurial journey. This inspiring individual attended a Global Summit on Sexual Exploitation in Washington DC, where she gained valuable insights, resources and skills to further her and our mission of helping others heal from trauma and chronic stress. Some of what she learned was (The exploitation-of children through CSAM, youth and adults with AI (artificial intelligence),  trafficking survivors, the effects of porn, prevention and also treatment for abuse, and how to hold companies accountable to create safe user policys and enforcing them alongside laws to protect society from extortion. On the last day, she advocated to senators with the pertinent legislative bills that could make more lasting changes. “I was so joyously overwhelmed to be around like-minded people with a common goal in these sensitive, often misunderstood topics. There are alot of people out there advocating and making changes.”

It was through the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual Domestic Violence (ACEDSV) that Brianna volunteered with our founder Grace. They spoke about their own experiences and elaborated on the needs in the community. She reached out to Grace about CESE (Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation), a global conference on sexual exploitation held in Washington D.C. last month, to which Grace shared with Brianna the work that she had begun with the Becoming Grace Foundation. The foundation created impact by helping fund Brianna’s trip to the conference, and now they have a blooming partnership with plans to help their communities through healing workshops, events, and informative presentations.

“I was ecstatic as I had been just starting my own business and did not have all the funds. We are now partners and plan to work together on some presentations and events in the community and see where we can help each other. I look forward to it.”

Ms. Barrasso is an Arizona native, a mother, and a hummingbird enthusiast. She has dedicated the last twenty years to social work in crisis, including suicide hotline and sexual assault treatment centers. These centers provided detoxing services, as well as shelters for women and children who were homeless and/or survivors of domestic violence. She has her LMSW (licensed master social worker), and also works as a trauma and boundary coach. In her coaching, she is an integrative somatic practitioner with twenty years of training and experience in breathwork and meditation.

Her passion for advocating for others had been ignited through her own experiences with abuse, In her words, “Anything less than loving can be a form of violence – to the self, to others, or by others.”

Here is a list of a few warning signs that Ms. Barrasso has learned in her years of expertise on the subject matter:

  • When your “no” is argued or manipulated.

  • When you are being corrected or criticized constantly.

  • When you are given ultimatums and threats.

  • Condescending comments in public, or the opposite, only behind closed doors to save image.

  • Any unwanted forced or unforced physical behavior that makes you feel uncomfortable, and this is different for everyone; each voice is valid.

Brianna Barrasso is a thriver in every sense of the word. She works every day to overcome her own personal rainstorm and looks to that rainbow as a reminder that she is capable, loved, and strong. As a founder of her own embodied business, we would love to take a moment to highlight it.

Hummingbody provides trauma-informed coaching services that utilize her talents in integrative somatic practices to assist in nervous system release, backed by boundary coaching. She aims to help individuals through their healing journeys. In a confidential and safe space, she will assist you in tapping into your innate understanding and navigate with you through your transformative journey, allowing your body and intuition to lead the way. We are excited for the future with Brianna and what we can provide for others' healing in the coming future.
